The Challenge
RoboHub Eindhoven participates in RoboCup@Work, an international robotics competition focused on real-world industrial applications within Industry 4.0.
The challenge involves building an autonomous robot capable of navigating dynamic environments, identifying specific objects using vision systems, and performing precise manipulation tasks.
To achieve this, the team needed a robotic arm that was lightweight enough for mobile deployment, powerful enough for precise handling, and affordable within a limited project budget. Other robotic arms, with their bulky controllers and high costs, were not suitable for this type of application.
Why UFACTORY
The UFACTORY Lite 6 addressed the team’s initial skepticism regarding low-cost hardware by delivering professional-grade performance and a "plug-and-play" integration experience.
Integrated control box was a key advantage, eliminating the need for an external controller and significantly simplifying system design.
Carbon fiber body made Lite 6 easy to mount onto a mobile robot.
Open-source SDK support allowed the team to quickly integrate the robot into their software stack and customize behaviors for competition requirements.
Ease of integration through standardized end-of-arm I/O enabled fast and reliable gripper setup.
Strong price-to-performance ratio exceeded expectations, proving that a low-cost robot could still deliver the performance required for advanced robotics competitions.
Reviews
Because of the price to performance. It exceeds our expectations because we had our doubts that it would work this well for this price point. Also, it does not need a big control box which was the biggest plus point for us. The technical setup is easy and straightforward.
