Laser Engraver & Printer Machine Tending with UFACTORY
Laserlux
In Short
Laserlux is a Belgian laser processing and custom fabrication specialist in the Liège region. Founded in 2013, the company offers precision laser cutting, engraving, marking, direct object printing, and related fabrication services to individual customers and professional clients across creative and industrial fields. Their machine park covers a wide range of materials, including metal, wood, plastic, glass, and more.
To automate two distinct production bottlenecks, Laserlux deployed two UFACTORY robots working alongside their existing equipment. The uArm Swift Pro was integrated directly with a laser engraving machine to handle loading and unloading of items—turning a manual, operator-dependent process into a continuous, unattended workflow. The Lite 6 was deployed to load items into a UV flatbed printer, automating the feeding step for direct-on-object print jobs and keeping the machine running without constant operator intervention.
Together, the two robots allow Laserlux to run their engraving and printing equipment with significantly less manual handling—freeing staff to focus on design, quality control, and customer service rather than machine operation.
Customer Profile
Key Benefits
Unattended machine operation on both engraving and printing lines.
Two different robots, two different tasks—right-sized for each job.
Compact footprint fits within existing workshop layout.
Accessible pricing enables automation for a small production shop.
Staff freed from repetitive machine loading to focus on value-added work.
Tasks Solved
Laser engraver loading & unloading (uArm Swift Pro). Items are placed onto the laser engraving machine bed by the uArm and removed once the engraving cycle completes—enabling the machine to run continuously without a dedicated operator standing by.
UV flatbed printer feeding (Lite 6). The Lite 6 picks and places items onto the UV flatbed printer’s print bed, maintaining a consistent feed for direct-on-object print jobs and eliminating the need for manual loading between cycles.
Benefits Achieved
Turned two operator-dependent machines into semi-autonomous cells, each capable of running without continuous human supervision.
Reduced idle machine time between jobs—the robot loads the next item as soon as the previous cycle ends, keeping utilization high.
Freed workshop staff from standing at machines to perform repetitive loading tasks, reallocating their time to design, finishing, and customer-facing work.
Demonstrated that a small custom fabrication business can automate meaningfully with compact, affordable robots—without a large-scale integration project.
The Challenge
Laser engraving and UV printing are both capital-intensive processes—but the machines themselves can only earn their keep when they’re running. In a small production shop, the bottleneck is often not the machine speed but the human time required to load it: placing each item precisely on the bed, waiting for the cycle, removing the finished piece, and placing the next one. This pattern ties an operator to the machine and limits throughput to whatever pace a person can sustain.
Laserlux faced this constraint on two separate machines. Their laser engraver required an operator to load and unload each item manually. Their UV flatbed printer needed someone to feed objects onto the print bed between cycles. Neither task is technically demanding—but both demand constant presence, leaving staff with little time for anything else while the machine is running.
The challenge was automating these tasks with robots compact enough to fit within the existing workshop layout, affordable enough to justify the investment for a small production business, and simple enough to integrate with machines that weren’t designed with robot interfaces in mind.
Why UFACTORY
Laserlux needed two different robots for two different jobs—and UFACTORY’s product range offered the right tool for each.
uArm Swift Pro: the right fit for laser engraver tending. The uArm’s built-in support for laser engraving workflows made it a natural match for Laserlux’s engraving machine. Its compact desktop footprint allowed it to be positioned directly adjacent to the machine without rearranging the workshop, and its straightforward programming interface meant the loading sequence could be set up and adjusted without specialist robotics expertise.
Lite 6: compact precision for UV printer feeding. The Lite 6’s small form factor and 440 mm reach made it well-suited to the confined space around a UV flatbed printer. With ±0.5mm repeatability, it places items onto the print bed with the consistency required for direct printing on objects—where even small positioning errors affect output quality.
Two affordable robots, not one expensive system. A conventional machine-tending solution for two separate lines would typically require a single large robot or a custom-engineered cell—both significantly more expensive and complex to deploy. By using two compact, purpose-sized UFACTORY robots, Laserlux achieved automation on both lines at a fraction of that cost, with a much shorter path from purchase to productive use.
Minimal integration overhead. Neither the uArm nor the Lite 6 required major modifications to Laserlux’s existing machines or workflow. Both robots were deployed and operational quickly, fitting into the existing workshop environment without the extended commissioning timelines associated with traditional industrial robot installations.
